Norfolk’s October half term runs from Friday 23 October to Friday 30 October 2026, and most pupils finish on Thursday 22 October. The busiest week for things to do is the Halloween week itself: Bressingham Steam Museum runs four ghost train evenings and a bonfire night fireworks show, the Corn Hall in Diss has a Halloween musical for under-tens, an art morning and a magic show, and Wymondham Heritage Museum is open every day until its season ends on 8 November. Wymondham Heritage Museum

The museum in the old Bridewell is the one thing in the town itself that is open every day of the holiday. Its 2026 opening times are 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 10am to 4pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Admission is £4 for adults and seniors, £3.50 concessions, £1.20 for children aged 5 to 17, and free for under-fives. A £9 family ticket covers two adults and three children. Children under 11 must be with an adult.

For children the museum lists a dungeon to explore, a dig in the archaeology corner, a dressing-up corner, a cell crank to turn, a 1960s switchboard and a Second World War Anderson shelter. A “Pop In Late” offer lets anyone in for £1.20 between 3.15pm and 3.45pm. The museum’s events calendar shows the 2026 season closing at 4pm on Sunday 8 November, so half term is one of the last chances this year.

Bressingham Steam and Gardens

Bressingham, on the A1066 two and a half miles west of Diss, is open daily until 1 November. In the school holidays the operating calendar makes every day an “Orange Day”, 10.30am to 5pm, with trains every half hour, the Victorian Gallopers running and a steam service where possible. Parking is free. There is no public transport: the museum’s own advice is a taxi from Diss station, about three miles away.

Halloween at Bressingham runs on the evenings of 24, 27, 28 and 29 October. Gates open at 5.30pm, the first train leaves at 6pm and the site closes at 9pm. A ticket gives entry, one ride on the ghost train round the Fen Line and three rides on the Gallopers, with close-up magic, shows in the museum and marshmallows to toast at the firepits. It costs £10 for all ages, £5 for carers and season ticket holders, and under-threes go free. Vouchers and discounts are not accepted.

Nights at the Museum: Bonfire Night Special is on Friday 30 October, the last day of half term. It opens at 5.30pm, the Phonks play from 6pm, and the bonfire and fireworks start at 7.30pm, weather permitting. Adults pay £12, children aged 3 to 15 £6, carers £6 and infants go free. Season tickets do not cover it.

The Corn Hall, Diss

The Corn Hall’s half term programme is the most varied in the district.

  • Hallow Bean, Saturday 24 October, 11am, one hour. A Halloween musical by Fladam for ages 3 to 10 and their grown-ups. Family £34, child £10, adult £8.
  • Start With Art!, Tuesday 27 October, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Messy autumn creative play inspired by the current exhibition. £6.50 a child, under 18 months free but must be booked.
  • Magic and Marvels, Thursday 29 October, 2pm. Michael Jordan’s one-man magic and circus show. £12.50, the same for children and adults.
  • Halloween Horrors, Thursday 29 October, 7.30pm. Traditional ghost stories told by local actors with a live sound-effects table. £15, all seats.

For the adults, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre is on the night half term starts (23 October, 7.30pm) and the Corn Hall’s panto, Aladdin, has its final Panto Pay instalment due by 30 October. More on that on our pantomimes page.

  • Halloween Spooktacular UV dance workshop, Sunday 25 October, Wreningham Village Hall, Mill Lane, NR16 1AN. Doors 6.40pm, 7pm to 9pm, £16, run by Chloe’s Fitness Norwich and listed on Visit Wymondham. The listing describes it as beginner-friendly but gives no age guidance, so check before booking for a child.

The town’s own fireworks, Wymondham Rugby Club’s display, fall a week after half term; see our fireworks page. Wymondham Abbey held a Green Halloween evening in its churchyard on 31 October 2024, with bat and minibeast hunts, but had no 2026 listing on 24 September.
