Halloween in Wymondham is Saturday 31 October: a £7.50 ghost train from the Abbey Halt, a free treat trail 12-2pm, then Green Halloween at the Abbey.

Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday 31 October, the day after Norfolk’s half term ends, and Wymondham has three things on that day that run one after another. The Mid-Norfolk Railway’s Halloween Express leaves Wymondham Abbey Halt four times between 10am and 3.15pm. The Halloween Treat Trail fills the town centre from noon to 2pm. Green Halloween at Wymondham Abbey starts at 4.30pm and runs past dark. Two of the three are free. Everything below comes from the organisers’ own pages, checked on 4 October 2026.

The Halloween Express from Wymondham Abbey Halt

The Mid-Norfolk Railway runs its heritage Class 142 Pacer from Wymondham Abbey Halt to what it calls “Haunted Hardingham” station and back. Each round trip takes about an hour and a half: the 10am train is back at 11.30am and the 3.15pm train at 4.45pm. At Hardingham there are Halloween crafts, games and refreshments to buy, and every child aged 3 to 15 gets a goody bag.

Tickets are £7.50 each. Under-threes travel free on a parent’s lap; a child under three with their own seat needs a £7.50 ticket. The railway sells timed slots, and the time you book is the time the train leaves.

Practical points from the railway’s own terms:

  • Check-in opens 30 minutes before your train and closes 10 minutes before it.
  • No prams, pushchairs or buggies on the train, and none can be left at the station.
  • Hardingham has no public toilets. Use the ones at Wymondham Abbey Halt before you board.
  • Children must stay with an adult throughout.
  • No refunds, cancellations or changes once booked.
  • If severe weather forces a cancellation, the railway will say so on its website by 29 October.

The railway opened bookings at 9am on 28 August and expected the trains to sell out fast. Its page did not show any train as sold out on 4 October.

The Halloween Treat Trail, 12pm to 2pm

The town centre’s Trick or Treat Trail returns on Saturday 31 October. Wymondham Magazine reported on 2 October that dozens of high street businesses will give free treats to children in Halloween costume between noon and 2pm. The trail is run by Together for Wymondham, the businesses and community group that also runs the Christmas lights switch-on. It will publish the map of shops taking part on its Facebook page. The map was not out on 4 October.

Green Halloween at Wymondham Abbey, 4.30pm

Wymondham Abbey’s Green Halloween is a family evening in the churchyard, led by Wymondham Nature Group (WyNG). It is free, donations are welcome, and you do not need to book. All children must come with an adult. Bring wellies and a torch.

The Abbey’s schedule:

Time What happens
4.30pm Welcome inside the Abbey
5pm Outside with WyNG to find minibeasts, mushrooms and lichens
5.45pm Back inside for pumpkin soup and bread, with crafts
About 6pm, after sunset Outside again for bat detecting
6.25pm Storytelling
6.30pm Finish

Pumpkin picking

We have not found a pick-your-own pumpkin patch in or near Wymondham with a 2026 season on its own website. If you run one, email the details to hello@wymondhamnews.co.uk and we will add it.

Getting there and parking

Our parking page lists the four town car parks and their charges. Saturday 31 October is a busy day in the centre between noon and 2pm, so allow extra time. Check the roadworks and travel page before you set off.

The town’s fireworks follow a week later: Wymondham Rugby Club’s display is on Friday 6 November, £12 (our fireworks page).

What we will update

We will add the Treat Trail map when Together for Wymondham publishes it, and any sold-out Halloween Express trains. If the railway cancels for weather, it will say so by 29 October, and we will update this page the same day.
