Where we cover
Wymondham is the district’s largest town, though it holds only a small share of the 150,000 people who live here, which tells you how rural the rest is. Diss is the second centre, down on the Suffolk border. Around them are Long Stratton, Harleston, Loddon, Hingham, Poringland and Hethersett, and on the Norwich edge Costessey, which is a suburb of the city in everything but administration. We cover all of them and we name the actual village rather than writing “South Norfolk”.
What we report
South Norfolk Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the local rivers, and company filings in The Gazette. Roads, schools and social care come from Norfolk County Council rather than the district, and we say which body a decision belongs to. Every fact carries a link to the original document.
This district is being divided
It was confirmed in March 2026 that South Norfolk District Council will disappear entirely on 1 April 2028. Its parishes are to be split three ways: twenty-five to a new East Norfolk authority, sixteen to Greater Norwich and nine to West Norfolk. Which of the three a village ends up in will decide who collects its bins, sets its council tax and rules on its planning applications. We will report the detail from the published documents as it is settled, and keep the reference pages on this site pointing at whoever is actually responsible.
