No Greater Anglia trains call at Wymondham on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, and last year's Christmas Eve trains stopped by 10pm. What 2026 holds, and when it's due.

If you are travelling from Wymondham over Christmas, plan around two days with no trains at all. On the pattern Greater Anglia has run every year, there are no trains on Christmas Day, and on Boxing Day only a Stansted Express shuttle runs, nowhere near Norfolk. Christmas Eve finishes early. The 2026 detail is not published yet: last year’s arrived on 29 October, so expect it in late October, and this page will be updated when it does.

The quick answer

  • No trains at Wymondham on Friday 25 December or Saturday 26 December 2026, if Greater Anglia follows the same pattern as every recent year.
  • Christmas Eve finishes early. In 2025 trains stopped by 10pm, with fewer services from 7pm.
  • Between Christmas and New Year, Norwich to Cambridge North trains kept running in 2025, but London trains terminated at Stratford because Liverpool Street was shut from 25 December to 1 January.

Greater Anglia’s Christmas and New Year travel advice for 2025/26 is the best guide to what 2026 will look like. It was published on 29 October 2025 and last updated on 19 December 2025. This is what it set out for the lines that matter from Wymondham.

Two pieces of engineering drove the 2025 changes. Network Rail shut London Liverpool Street for eight days, 25 December to 1 January, to replace roof panels and work in the Bishopsgate tunnel. And a signalling renewal in the Cambridge area put buses in place of trains between Cambridge North and Stansted Airport, and between Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge, with Cambridge station car park closed from 26 December to 4 January.

For Wymondham, that meant the Cambridge line still ran, but only as far as Cambridge North. If your trip is to Cambridge itself or King’s Cross, check that first when the 2026 notice comes out. Our Wymondham train times page covers the two normal routes to London, via Norwich and via Cambridge.

What is booked for 2026 so far

Nothing for the Christmas week yet. On 25 September 2026 Greater Anglia’s December calendar listed just two alterations: Brundall to Lowestoft on Sunday 6 December, and Witham to Colchester late at night from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 December. Neither touches Wymondham. The January 2027 calendar is empty.

National Rail’s list of planned engineering work carries the same picture. Nothing on the Norwich, Cambridge or main line routes starts between 20 December 2026 and 4 January 2027 as yet. The Christmas closures are always added later, as a block.

Buses

Wymondham’s buses are run by First and Konectbus, and both publish a separate festive timetable, usually in December. Neither has published one for 2026. When they do, they will be on First Norfolk and Suffolk and Konectbus. Expect no buses on Christmas Day, as is normal, and check Boxing Day route by route.

Christmas parking in Wymondham and Diss

South Norfolk Council runs the car parks in Wymondham, Diss and Loddon, and it offered extra free parking in the run-up to Christmas 2025. Its 2025 announcement, published on 24 November 2025, gave:

  • Two hours free instead of one on the Saturdays of 29 November and 6, 13 and 20 December.
  • Free after 4pm, Monday to Friday, from 1 December.
  • It applied only with a free or pay and display ticket on the dashboard. RingGo and Check In Check Out were excluded.

Nothing has been announced for 2026. If the council repeats it, the notice is likely in late November. Sunday parking in all four Wymondham car parks is free anyway, because charges run Monday to Saturday only.
