73 South Norfolk food businesses rated since 1 August: 65 got five and none scored below three. The latest low is a Hingham takeaway rated 1 in July.
South Norfolk Council published 73 food hygiene ratings between 1 August and 24 September. Sixty-five of them were the top rating of five. None was below three.
That is what the Food Standards Agency register showed for the South Norfolk Council area when we read it on 25 September. Nine of the new fives are in Wymondham.
One caution before the lists. Low ratings often reach the register a few weeks after the inspection, because businesses have time to appeal first. So a run of fives in September does not mean nobody did badly this month.
New fives in Wymondham

The most recent low rating: Hingham, July
The last rating below three in the district was given in late July. Hingham Fish Bar & Kebab House at 24 Market Place, Hingham, was rated one on 23 July. Hingham is about six miles west of Wymondham.
The register breaks the result down into three areas:
- Hygienic food handling: generally satisfactory
- Cleanliness and condition of the building: improvement necessary
- Management of food safety: major improvement necessary
A one means “major improvement is necessary”. The register shows no newer rating and no reply from the business.
Two other July results were threes. They were Oh My Cod on Swan Lane, Long Stratton, rated on 20 July, and Spice And Garden Restaurant on Yarmouth Road, Hales, rated on 30 July.
What it means for you
- A rating is a snapshot. It records what the inspector found on the day, not how the food tastes or how the place is run today.
- Businesses can answer back. Any business can appeal, publish a right to reply on its register page, or ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements. Check the business’s own page on the register for the latest.
- Look before you order online. Delivery apps do not always show the rating. The FSA search takes a name or a postcode.
